19 works were received as part of Peranakan III: Evolutionarily Diverse. The profiles of the artists run the gamut from fine art to graphic and communications media, including interactive configurations and serial photography, as well as an actual publication. The range of works gives us concrete manifestations in the response to the brief. They pave the way for questions and reflections rather than offer an absolute form that proposes to engage the brief in totality.
The result of this can be seen in the 19 works, where artists contemplate the dilemma of identity and reflection (Francis Ng, Chng Keng Beng, Chng Chin Kang, Tay Swee Siong, Chua Poh Leng), the dynamic of design as a spiritual (zeitgeist) force bound by the elasticity of context (Chiew Sien Kuan, Cheng Ming Chong, Tan Tai Pang, Gregory Tham and Adeline Ngai, Jesvin Yeo), the simultaneous plunder and loss of heritage (Kenneth Seah, fFurious). The areas covered are in many cases seamless, since they ultimately bear the same questions provoking, revoking then reinforcing the potency of artistic enterprise.
