Alvin Tan Yuan Kiat (1979 - )
Alvin Tan Yuan Kiat was born in Singapore in 1979. He studied at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art (Ceramics) in 2000. In 2006, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Fine Art, majoring in Ceramics at the National Art School Sydney in Australia, and subsequently, under the sponsorship of NAFA, a Master of Visual Arts at the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia. To hone his skills, throughout his course of study, the artist engaged himself in various professional trainings and residencies in China, Australia, Taiwan and Malaysia.
Tan also dedicates his time to nurturing students and sharing his passion. Besides holding the position of an adjunct lecturer in Fine Art at his alma mater, Tan conducts pottery and ceramics workshops. He has also served as the jury for the Singapore 1st National Secondary Schools & Junior Colleges Competition in 2009 and in 2012, for Parkroyal Youth Art Judging Day in Yangon, Myanmar. Tan actively participates in group exhibitions both locally and abroad, and held his first solo exhibition Manipulating the earth to mimic CLOUDS as a featured artist for Singapore’s 46th National Day Celebration at the Singapore High Commission in Canberra, Australia. His works are collected by private collectors from several countries, as well as numerous organisations, such as The Ngee Ann Kongsi and The Canberra School of Arts.
