Deng Qichang (1992 -)

Deng Qichang was born in 1992 in Shantou, China. He graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 2013, majoring in Chinese ink painting. Deng injects new life into traditional Chinese paintings by challenging inherited norms while retaining the essence of Chinese brushwork. In his earlier works, Deng’s works followed a dull and cool-toned colour palette. In his later works, however, he experiments with increased colour variation and contrast between the neutral colours and attempts to bring out new visual ideas on the painted surface by exploring composition, colour and perspective from different angles. He has also employed digital painting in his exploration of new mediums. Deng has participated in several exhibitions, such as the Siaw-Tao Chinese Seal-Carving, Calligraphy and Painting Society Annual Exhibitions from 2014 to 2016. In 2022, his artwork was also featured in the 24th Ngee Ann National Teochew Artists exhibition. Deng artist currently resides in Singapore, where he runs an independent studio offering art classes to secondary school students.
