Jian Yao (1970 - )

Jian Yao was born in China in 1970 and studied Oil Painting at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts before moving to Singapore in 1998 to further his studies at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. After obtaining 2 diplomas in Fine Art and Western Painting in 2001, he joined the academy as a full-time lecturer in Fine Art, cultivating the interests of students until 2019. Jian Yao constantly engages himself in art related events, participating in group exhibitions such as the Eye-identifying Peranakan Culture Exhibition and the 65th NAFA Anniversary Alumni Exhibition. He is also a life member of the Society of Chinese Artist, a society that aims to promote art and nurture young artists. His works have been commissioned by several organisations and displayed in public spaces such as Bukit Batok Polyclinic and The Centrepoint.
