Teo Kim Liong (1938 - 2020 )

Born in 1938 in Johor, Malaysia, Teo Kim Liong is living proof that contrary to popular belief, it is possible to have a love for both the sciences and the arts and be able to excel in both. After graduating from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1956 with a Diploma in Western Art, Teo went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Physics at the University of Singapore. For the next three decades, Teo held the position of a Computer Engineer at a global technology company. In 1994, he decided to pursue this other passion, left his job, and became a Research Scholar at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China, before enrolling at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London. He graduated with a Master of Fine Art in Painting in 1998.

Since then, he has committed himself to the arts, actively participating in group exhibitions over the years, such as the 2008 Shanghai International Fine Art Exposition and the 2011 Art Revolution in Taipei. He was also participated in a number of artist residency programmes, including the highly regarded Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris, France, and has held over 5 solo exhibitions. With his background in science, Teo’s approach to art is distinct and his works are regarded by critics to be full of luminosity and feelings.
