Born in Hong Kong in 1960, acclaimed artist and creative director Stanley Wong is known by the pseudonym anothermountainman. In the past two decades, his art often incorporates the use of red, white and blue canvas and takes the form of photographic installations. Trained in visual communications at the Hong Kong Technical College and Hong Kong Polytechnic, Wong was a creative director in major advertising firms for numerous years. During one of his travels in the late 80s, Wong began conceptualising his redwhiteblue series. In 2000, he set up his own advertising agency, and his redwhiteblue series was conceived the following year, in 2001. Over the years, Wong has also created a series of art installations, participated in photography exhibitions and produced a full-length movie in 2017.

Infinite Prospect Series 1 was exhibited as part of Wong’s second solo exhibition titled perceive emptiness at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in 2014. In creating this showcase, Wong was strongly influenced by the studies of Buddhism and Buddhist philosophical values. The use of old Chinese rice paper on scrolls as a medium of choice articulates the artist’s philosophical contemplations on the existence and the passing of time. When the work was displayed at the NAFA galleries, the old rice paper was damaged by visitors through accidental contact with a water-logged brush. Though the damage was accidental, it left a mark which exemplifies what the work symbolises impermanence and the interaction of human behaviour within the passage of time.
