Ladies Chatting depicts two slender female figures wearing dainty kebaya engaged in a polite conversation. The two ladies, with flowers in their hair, appear graceful and poised. Lychees, jackfruits and eggplants, native produce of Southeast Asia, occupy the painting, suggesting that this painting depicts a scene from a local marketplace. The overall composition, painted with soft colours, accentuates the beauty of an everyday setting.
