Born in Myanmar in 1987, Nyan Soe’s works often reflect a lyrical and contemplative quality. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from the University of East Yangon, Myanmar, before graduating from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) with a Diploma in Fine Art (Sculpture) in 2013. Known for his ceramic installations, Nyan Soe is also well-versed in other mediums, such as Chinese seal carving and installation art. The multi-talented artist often draws inspiration from his personal experience and articulates these feelings cleverly in his works.

Moonlight . City . Dream is inspired by a Mandarin pop song lyric titled Moonlight in the City by Xu Meijing. This artwork tells the story of the artist’s dreams when he first arrived in Singapore a decade ago. The environment of the concrete jungle, lit by harsh streetlights, contrasts with that of his hometown, where the moonlight beams softly. Moonlight . City . Dream is a contemplation of his time here in Singapore and his nostalgia for his hometown. He posits the question: Where would the streetlights lead him– or was it the moonlight that guided him all this while?
