Tham Peng Choon was born in 1946 in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. Passionate about art and painting since childhood, Tham pursued his formal art education and graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore, in 1971. An active member of Ipoh’s art community, Tham was a gallerist, arts educator and life member of the Perak Art Association. In Perak, Tham set up the Artland Gallery and founded an art academy which he later sold. Throughout his 40 years of artistic practice in oil and watercolour, he was always inspired by his hometown. Tham passed away in 2017.

The artist manipulates watercolours to create texture. By employing both soft shades of green with thin orange lines, the autumn leaves intense tactility can almost be felt at one’s fingertips. Here, Tham renders a unique landscape perspective, focusing not on the scenery but on the beautiful form of a tree as its branches twist and fold into each other.
