Born in 1942, Sarawak, Malaysia, Goh Siew Guan graduated from the Singapore Teacher’s Training Centre in 1965. He was a full-time art educator with the Ministry of Education for 30 years while practising as a landscape watercolour artist during his free time. A member of Singapore Watercolour Society, Goh is inspired by the natural outdoor landscapes that reflects an atmosphere of serenity and tranquility. To fulfil his interest and passion, he travels to rustic locations both locally and overseas. Known for his vivid detailing of subjects in his works, Goh complements this with a congruent colour palette that evokes a nostalgic quality.

In Siesta, Goh renders the scene of a figure standing on the porch of a zinc-roofed house along shore-lined trees. Goh’s technical painting finesse particularly in tonal values can be observed from the meticulous and realistic rendering of the environment. The subtle washes of the sky, sea and grass patch at the edges of the work frames the focus of the subject.
