Indonesian-born Belinda Mulyani Soetantio believes that an artist must be skilful at expressing their feelings and thoughts in their body of work. Trained at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), specialising in Object Design, Belinda graduated with a Diploma in 3D (Object Design) in 2014. In 2012, Belinda participated in a conceptual sculpture workshop organised by the Institute of Southeast Asian Arts (ISEAA) at the Academy. Together with three other NAFA students of her cohort, she attended a bronze casting field trip to Verona Bronze Foundry, Italy, in 2013.

Through the enriching learning journey Belinda experienced during the workshops, Torso and Vestal Virgin (Vestale) were two figurative bronze works conceptualised and created during her field trip to Verona. At the seminar, she experienced the traditional process of bronze casting under the guidance of Italian sculptor Anna Chiara Spellini and artisans working at the foundry. As an Object Design student, Belinda could integrate her design skills into fine art skills, cultivating her sense of aesthetic sensibilities and craftmanship skills, as seen in her sculpture.
