Commissioned by the National Arts Council, this publication brings together the works of 38 Cultural Medallion recipients in the visual arts from 1979 to 2015. The Cultural Medallion is the nation’s highest artistic accolade to recognise arts practitioners of all genres (performing and visual) who had contributed to evolving the cultural landscape in Singapore. The publication, which features more than 300 full-colour images, includes works of drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, installation and performance art, as well as profiles of the artists themselves. Definitions of various mediums and styles are also included, making this an informative work of reference. It presents an in-depth approach to understanding the artists’ practices through an art historical discourse that posits critical lens on their artistic endeavours and pursuits: a valuable visual sourcebook and a celebration of Singapore's rich and diverse culture.
