The opening of Beyond Print on 11 March 2025 by NAFA's Provost, Dr Chong Keng Hua was a well-supported event, drawing a strong contingent of faculty, alumni, and friends from the NAFA community. The exhibition delves into the evolution of printmaking, showcasing its expansion beyond traditional boundaries through a diverse range of works, including relief prints, woodcuts, silkscreen applied to sculpture, dressmaking incorporating print techniques, risograph prints as well as site-specific installations. Through these varied approaches, NAFA's artists and designers collaboratively push the limits of this versatile medium, offering a fresh perspective that redefines both the physical and conceptual aspects of printmaking. Complementing the exhibition is a curated display of NAFA's print archive and letterpress collection, featuring historically significant items such as rare Chinese typefaces, a newspaper flong from Sin Chew Jit Poh and printing blocks for wedding invitations, everyday products salvaged from local printing shops between the 1950s and 1980s. This juxtaposition of current innovation and historical artefacts provided a comprehensive view of printmaking's enduring and evolving nature.

Close to 200 students from across the Faculty of Art & Design (FOAD) in the General Studies class benefited from valuable engagement with artists during four sharing sessions. These direct interactions fostered an appreciation for the diverse printmaking approaches and creative processes underpinning the exhibited works. A select group of over 20 students participated in printmaking masterclasses on March 26th. Miguel Chew, NAFA Academic Advisor (Print) led a session on risograph printing, and letterpress advocate-educator Sun Yao Yu conducted a workshop in typesetting, imparting their knowledge of traditional print as well as modern applications.
