In conjunction with NAFA’s Open House, this hybrid of 2 different showcases Flagship Genius and Ayutthaya IV represent and demonstrate the creative potential of interdisciplinary art-making within the academy. This double-bill exhibition showcases a panorama of talent in artmaking from NAFA’s Fine Art, 3D Design, Design & Media and Fashion Studies programmes, as well as the outcomes of students who participated in the academy-wide project using Ayutthaya as a creative stimuli and subject matter. The academy-wide project was jointly managed and programmed by the Institute of Southeast Asian Arts and the academic schools at NAFA, where students involved themselves not only in lectures and workshops but were also introduced to the topic of Ayutthaya in their curriculum and modules.
The opening event began with students from the Music programme performing "Overflowing River" and "Prelude" on the Javanese Gamelan. This was followed by English Drama students from the Theatre programme with their rendering of "Ramakien: The Rescue of Sida". The Mandarin Drama students rounded off the Theatre offerings with "大城容貌 Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya". In the finale, Music took over the stage once again, performing a combination of 2 separate pieces "Ties" and "Ladrang Semula". This musical hybrid talks about building ties and relationships - the importance of compromise within any collaboration and partnership, in reflection of the Burmese-Siamese war during the reign of Ayutthaya.
