Graduated from NAFA in 1954, Aw Tee Hong has held many solo exhibitions in his artistic career of more than half a century. The exhibition Renewed Acquaintances featured 12 large-scale paintings of street and kampong scenes of Singapore in the 1960s as well as a selection of sculptures, landscape and figure paintings inspired from his travels around Europe and Asia. The opening was officiated by Guest of Honour, Mr Kwok Kian Chow, Director of Singapore Art Museum and National Art Gallery on 28 March 2009 and during this event, the artist also donated an acrylic painting titled Balinese Dancers to NAFA’s Art Collection. As part of the exhibition, a gallery walkthrough with the artist was organised involving the students from the Fine Arts Department where Mr Aw shared his experience, insights and thoughts as a practicing artist and encouraged the students to pursue their passion and motivated them to experiment boldly in their art.
