Workshops and Events > Past Exhibitions Silent Actors: Puppets of Myanmar and Cambodia

Venue: The Ngee Ann Kongsi Galleries 1 & 2
Date Of Event: 12 January - 9 July 2017

Following two puppets exhibitions Silent Actors I and II organised by Institute of Southeast Asian Arts (ISEAA), the display showcases elements from the interdisciplinary projects of NAFA students from Arts Management, Dance, Fashion, Fine Art, Screen Media and Theatre.                                             Based on folktales and scenes inspired by the Hindu epic Ramayana, NAFA students were taught traditional performing art forms such as skills to manipulate Burmese and Thai marionettes, Sbek Thom leather puppets and comparative dance through research trips in Southeast Asia and artist-in-residence workshops at the academy.                                                              Photo documentation of these performances, video documentary on the lost art of Cambodian puppetry and a Fine Art installation showcase the culmination of work and practice by NAFA students for these two projects.
