In conjunction with the exhibition XEMX: 5 Friends 10 Years Art Infinite, and the 10th instalment of the Art Clinic, the General Studies module aims to introduce the works of 5 Vietnamese artists: Nguyen Thanh Truc, UuDam Tran Nguyen, Quang Lam, Hoang Duong Cam and Phan Quang, or collectively known as XEM Collective, to the Faculty of Art and Design (FOAD) Foundation Programme, Year 1 students. The exhibition presented perspectives on photographic practices and challenged how one perceives the world.
The students visited the exhibition and personally engaged with the artists to learn more about their practices and works on display during the show. The students were first given an introduction to the different artists and their works, followed by a tour of the works given by the artists themselves. Lastly, the sessions concluded with a Q&A segment where students were given the opportunity to further enquire about specific artist practices or the collective's experience as a whole.
