In contemporary Southeast Asian society, textile and fashion plays several, though often subdued roles in the region’s historical discourse. Aside from materialising cultural roots, geographical origins, ethnic lineages, and sense of belonging to a certain socio-cultural group or communities, garments and its manifestation in the way people dress, remains an important tool of iconographic studies.
