Chng Chin Kang 庄青刚 (1963 -)
Born in Singapore, Chng Chin Kang received his Diploma in Fine Arts from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1988 and later, a Master of Arts in Art and Education from the University of Central England in 1996.
His time in London proved to be transformative period. Driven by a fascination with human behaviour within social and cultural structures, Chng adopted figurative realism and material exploration as a creative process, that reflect on the modern, societal, anxieties through shared human experiences. Upon returning to Singapore, his observations of the everyday became a critical lens, a subtle satire to confront uncomfortable truths, social norms and collective dynamics of modern Singaporean society.
His distinguished career includes numerous local and international accolades such as the UOB Painting of the Year Award, Philip Morris ASEAN Art Award and the Vermont Studio Centre Freemen Fellowship in the United States.
