Lim Poh Teck (1963 - )
Born in 1963, Lim Poh Teck is a Singaporean artist and art educator. Lim graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1987 and LASALLE, Singapore, in 1989. He holds a PhD from Peking University Beijing, China, a Master of Arts (Media Art) from the University of New South Wales, College of Fine Arts, Australia and a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education from the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Lim’s Chinese roots and exposure to Western societies through foreign education greatly inspired him to learn more about other diverse cultures while celebrating one’s own roots and heritage. As a result, his works are often drawn from personal reflections of his life’s experience, heritage, and culture.
Lim has represented Singapore in many international workshops, residency programmes and exhibitions. These include the 6th Asian Youth Painting Workshop and Exhibition in Brunei Darussalam in 1988, Australia and Regional Artist's Exchange 89-Metro Mania in Australia in 1989, New Generation Contemporary Singapore Art Exhibition and Symposium in Japan in 1990 and Artists in Residence program at the National Gallery of Victoria in Australia in 2000. He received many awards, including the Australian Art Award Scholarship in 1986, the Grand Prize in the 9th UOB Painting of the Year Competition in 1990 and the Young Artist Award from the National Arts Council, Singapore, in 1997 for his outstanding achievements in the Arts. Lim is currently a Senior Lecturer at NAFA.
