Sherman Ong (1971- ) 
 

Born in Malaysia in 1971, Sherman Ong, is a multifaceted artist working across film, photography, and visual art. Though he trained in law at the National University of Singapore, his artistic calling lies in exploring the human condition. 

Ong's work delves into the intricate web of connections between individuals and their larger environment, often referencing Southeast Asia's rich history. He weaves narratives that are both personal and thought-provoking, utilising diverse artistic language that incorporates found objects, assemblages and installations. 
 
Ong's artistic journey is marked by critical acclaim and international recognition. His works have been featured in prestigious exhibitions and film festivals worldwide, including the Venice Biennale and the Singapore International Film Festival. He has also received numerous awards, such as the Prudential Eye Awards for Photography and the ICON de Martell Cordon Bleu Photography Award.
