Tham Peng Choon (1946 – 2017)

Tham Peng Choon was born in 1946 in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. Passionate about art and painting since childhood, Tham pursued his formal art education and graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore in 1971. An active member in Ipoh’s art community, Tham was a gallerist, arts educator and life member of the Perak Art Association. In Perak, Tham set up the Artland Gallery and founded an art academy which he had later, sold. Throughout his 40 years of artistic practice in oil and watercolour, Tham was always inspired by his hometown. Painting scenes of a bygone era, Tham’s landscape views of Perak’s tin mining past often carries a nostalgic and romantic quality. In his senior years, Tham taught adult art classes in his gallery. Tham passed away in 2017.
