Wong Kean Choon (1942 - )

Wong Kean Choon was born in 1942, Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. Wong came to Singapore and enrolled in the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts to pursue his aspirations to become an artist and graduated from the academy in 1965. Since then, he has been honing his craft, travelling to different states in his home country to capture scenes of its landscape and people. With a penchant for watercolour, Wong often paints scenes of domestic life in tranquil villages and marketplaces featuring kebaya-clad ladies and farm animals. An accomplished watercolourist, Wong lectures at the Perak Institute of Art and is the President and a life member of the Perak Art Society. Wong is also a life member of the Balai Seni Negara (National Art Gallery, Malaysia) and a committee member of the Contemporary Malaysia Watercolour Association. He has won several awards, including the 2nd prize winner of an art competition held in conjunction with the celebration of Ipoh City Status in 1988 and the year after, a Creative Award in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Alumus Malaysia Exhibition.
