Boo Sze Yang (b. 1965 - )

Born in 1965, Boo Sze Yang is a Singaporean artist who graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in 1991, obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art at the University of Reading in 1995 and an MA in Arts from Chelsea College of Art & Design, University of the Arts, London, in 2004.

For over two decades, Boo taught at various established institutions in Singapore, including NAFA, the National Institute of Education, the National Technological University, and the School of the Arts (Singapore). As an artist and educator, he has been invited to sit on advisory committees and judging panels for organisations such as Singapore’s National Arts Council, Affordable Art Fair Singapore, the Bazaar Art Prize and more.

As an artist, Boo explores a diverse range of subjects through his paintings. These include everyday objects, portraitures, vehicular accidents, interiors of architectural buildings, and keen observations on the human condition to challenge existing perceptions.

Boo has received numerous awards throughout his career, including the Asian Artist Fellowship Award 2010/2011 from the Freeman Foundation for residency at the Vermont Studio Centre in the USA; Juror’s Choice for the Philip Morris Singapore-ASEAN Art Award in 2003; Platinum Award for the UOB Painting of the Year Competition in 2009 and the Distinguished Alumni Medal by NAFA in 2017.​​​​​​
