Ang Ah Tee: Fascinating Visions was organised by NAFA Art Galleries in honour of his Cultural Medallion achievement in 2009. A showcase of 55 paintings was staged at NAFA Art galleries 1 & 2 from 10th to 28th April 2010. The artist received his art education at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts from 1960 to 1962 and was mentored by established artists like Cheong Soo Pieng and Georgette Chen. Ang began his practice in oils and watercolour. He later explored a repertoire in acrylic for which he is distinguished today. The characteristic of acrylic allows Ang to paint spontaneously with speed. Coupled with the use of a palette knife, it creates an art form that is unique to Ang. Ms Bridget Tracy Tan wrote: “it has been said that Ang has spent his lifetime continually painting landscapes without an end in sight. Perhaps his march of progress is borne by the vital hallmarks located in each place he visits, once twice and sooner, again and again. His quest to create newness and invigorate his forms has led to new realms of mark marking, exploring the dynamic aspects of calligraphic renderings, a tribute to iconic heritage and a desire to invoke the archaic humanism of cultures and civilisation long forgotten.”
