Workshops and Events > Past Exhibitions Prismatic: Ang Ah Tee

Venue: The Ngee Ann Kongsi Galleries 1 & 2
Date Of Event: 24 August– 4 September 2024

Acclaimed NAFA alumnus and Cultural Medallion recipient Ang Ah Tee held his 17th solo exhibition and his third at NAFA. At age 82, Ang remained highly prolific, he created a body of 40 works between 2023-2024, featuring familiar scenes of Singapore’s iconic shophouses, back alleys of Chinatown, panoramic views of the Marina Bay and boats at the historic Singapore River, Grand Canal of Venice and River Seine of Paris. Going beyond realism and favouring semi-abstraction, Ang embraced the bold and brilliant colours and chose to work with fast-drying acrylic paint and the paintbrush in place of his oil and palette knife. Layer by layer, he used colours to create depth, convey space, spontaneity and emotions, a process honed by experience, incited by a curious mind, a disciplined hand and a lifelong passion for art.

The exhibition opening was held on 23 August 2024 officiated by Guest of Honour, Professor Kwok Kian Woon, Vice Chancellor of the University of the Arts Singapore. In his opening speech, Prof Kwok shared engaging anecdotes of his interactions with the artist, leaving food for thought, on the transformative power of the arts that reside in the minds of the curious and courageous.
