Workshops and Events > Past Workshops and Activities Cross Disciplinary Practices in Southeast Asia Workshop with the School of Music

This cross-disciplinary learning experience involves=d year 1 students from the School of Music and an excursion to the National Gallery Singapore, where students discovered a selection of prominent modern artworks from around Southeast Asia. Following the excursion, a lecture and workshop were conducted by Dr Bridget Tracy Tan, touching upon various themes such as movement and symbolic gesture, the environment as inspiration, as well as distinct characterisation in Southeast Asian narratives as viable pathways connecting the different disciplines in artmaking.

Through understanding the importance of the community and the specifics of time and space in Southeast Asian artmaking, the students got to explore their very own definition of these themes and its manifestation in their own creative processes as artists. At the end of the workshop, the students worked in groups to develop a storyboard and present their envisioned narrative through the juxtaposition of several visual imagery and musical expressions.
