Heroic Tales: Puppetry across Southeast Asia - General Studies is an exhibition outcome from a decade of field trips across 9 Southeast Asian countries, and a series of interdisciplinary work by students and lecturers from NAFA. Following the series of learning journey, they respond by documenting vibrant puppetry tradition in the region, one that breathe life into the epic stories of Ramayana.
In conjunction with this exhibition, the General Studies module invites students to explore themes relating to universe-building and teamwork through the lenses of narratives and iconography. As students discover and learn about the different forms and uses of puppetry within Southeast Asia, they were guided to create a puppet character of their own, to embark on their very own journey of universe-building through the puppet's background stories, attributes and what they represent.
