Born in Singapore in 1967, NAFA alumna and Young Artist Award recipient (2000) Hong Sek Chern is recognised for her stylistic interpretations of Singapore urban landscapes. In this exhibition, Hong presented new experimentations in Chinese ink within contemporary contexts, using single point and multipoint perspectives to create pictorial and abstract compositions. The artist moved beyond flat surfaces, to investigate the possibility of the 3D in ink painting, boldly reconstructing surface textures to expand our views of Chinese ink traditions through paper reliefs, which challenged the definition of space that is unlimited by medium and dimension.
