As part of a research initiative on Southeast Asian choral music, the Institute of Southeast Asian Arts (ISEAA) invited the dance principals Murtala and Alfira O'Sullivan of Suara Indonesia Dance to introduce the art of body percussion in practice and performance.
A hands-on practical session with Acehnese performers of Sanggar Budaya Aceh Nusantara (BUANA) demonstrated various techniques of vocalisation and body movement in Acehnese sitting song-dances such as Ratoh Duek, Rapai Geleng and Saman.
This research and programme was commissioned by ISEAA and organised in collaboration with the School of Music (SOM) at NAFA.
