ISEAA invited the renowned Indian classical and contemporary dancer Raka Maitra, along with her dance assistant Caroline Chin of Chowk Productions to conduct a five-day workshop on two Indian classical dance forms, namely, Odissi and Chhau. The programme was part of a course module called ‘Dance Techniques: Asian Dance and Movement’ and was attended by Year 2 students from the School of Dance.
The workshop touched on the history and aesthetics of Odissi, including an introduction to Tribangh, and Pallavi (using a short excerpt of Vasanth Pallavi). Student participants practiced the basic Chhau exercises, Chowk and Tribangh steps. To demonstrate the students' understanding, they were involved in a short presentation on the last day of the programme.
